GRIFFINS AND AEROPLANES- THE ROAD RUN

A number of section members may have decided to attend the BDC annual rally  and so our numbers were a little down on last year, but over 20 Section members enjoyed a delightful day in Bedfordshire. Starting at the Vauxhall Heritage collection in Luton we were able to see their Prince Henry, one of just nine surviving examples of the world’s first sports car together with a superbly original 100 mph OE 30/98.

Our route then took us through some lovely countryside to The White Horse at Southill for lunch before ending the afternoon at the famous Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden.

Road Run Information and Booking - 10th June 2018

Following the success of the Road Runs of 2016 and 2017 I have organised another for 2018.

This year’s run will take place on Sunday 10th June. It is rather later this year so that we can have an opportunity to visit the Vauxhall Heritage Centre in Luton in the morning. This will be followed by a drive into the Bedfordshire countryside, followed by a buffet lunch at an excellent country pub  and will conclude with an optional visit to the famous Shuttleworth Collection near Biggleswade.

We will meet at 10am at the Heritage Centre in Park Street Luton ,LU1 3HG, which is easily reached off the A505 on the Southern side of the town approached via J9 of the M1. The Centre, which only opens its doors to the public once a year, is celebrating its 25th year and contains 75 cars from the very earliest 5hp car of 1903.

After this we shall set off to the North East through the villages of Cockernhoe, Lilley, Hexton, Higham Gobion, Shillington, Upper Gravenhurst, Campton to Southill for a pre-booked buffet lunch at the White Horse. The cost of lunch, to be paid in advance is £16 per head.

If you wish you can then take a short drive through the beautiful estate grounds to see the Shuttleworth Collection of old aeroplanes motor-cycles and cars, or if you prefer you can look at the famous Swiss Gardens.

There be a  charge of £20 per car, payable to R-REC Middlesex Section, this is partly to cover the admin  costs of the run, but should allow us to make a donation to a suitable charity if there is a small surplus.

It is critical that I give numbers to the Lunch stop and to Shuttleworth by late May. Numbers at the lunch stop are strictly limited.

Please confirm by sending an email no later than Monday 21st May 2018.   richardedgell@waitrose.com
